Specialists in Specialty insurance
Most people think about insurance in the context of cover for residential property, vehicles or health. While we do provide insurance for some of these personal lines, along with some off-the-shelf products for small businesses, our specialization is in creating tailored commercial insurance or reinsurance solutions. This is what we mean when we call ourselves a specialty insurer.
‘Specialty insurance’ covers everything from race horses to fine art, cargo to crops, and aerospace to political risk. Catlin is an industry leader in this field.
Insuring the insurers
Insurers don’t necessarily want to take on all the risk when they decide to issue a policy. “Reinsurance” allows the primary insurer to share the risk by taking out their own insurance against loss. For example, Insurer A may insure a large commercial development, and ask Insurer B to re-insure part or all of A’s risk. Insurer B becomes the reinsurer.

Worldwide presence
We want our values and performance to be consistent throughout the organization. But we also want our offices around the world to have operational authority and to develop local expertise.
To achieve this, we operate a ’hub model‘. Each hub operates in a key market around the world, with its own head office and network of regional offices. While hubs retain underwriting authority and responsibility for growth and development, their strategy and operating principles come centrally from Catlin Group.
Our underwriting hubs in the UK, Bermuda, the United States, Asia Pacific, Europe, and Canada place us at the heart of every major insurance market—and our network of local offices makes sure clients benefit from relevant expertise and personal service.
